Movember has kicked off its sixth annual campaign to encourage Canadians to embrace the moustache and raise money for prostate cancer research.

This year the global charity, where participants grow a moustache in November, will be addressing men's mental health as well as prostate cancer.

According to Movember, one in five Canadian men are affected by mental health issues, four out of five suicides among young people in Canada are committed by men, men are between three and four times more likely to commit suicide than women, and the risk of suicide in men with prostate cancer is over four times that of a similarly aged men without prostate cancer.

Last year, 4,400 Manitoba participants raised nearly $675,000. This year Jeff Palson, Movember Winnipeg Co-Chair, says the goal is to register 10,000 people and raise $1 million.

Manitobans can register at www.movember.com.
